GUWAHATI: Uttar Pradesh took full control against Assam on the opening day of the Ranji trophy tie at Kanpur today. Invited to bat first Assam were bowled out paltry 175 runs in the first innings. Host reached 64-1 in their first innings at stumps on day I.
Assam made worst start in the morning as they were once struggling at 27-5. It was the sixth and seventh wicket partnership between Sarupam Purkayastha and Pallav Kumar Das and seventh wicket between Pallav-Jitumoni that helped Assam to put a respectable total on the board. Pallav, came into bat at number seven position, was the highest scorer in the first innings. The batsman faced 105 balls to score 75 runs with the help of 10 boundaries and one six.
The left hander made partnership with Sarupam when the total was 27-5 and the duo took the score to 100. Sarupam also made good start but failed to stretch his innings too long. The batsman got out on 35 and there were seven hits to the fence.
Later Jitumoni Kalita gave good support to Pallav and the duo added another 56 runs on the seventh wickets. Jitumoni scored 23 with the help of four boundaries.
Uttar Pradesh made good start and the opening partnership produced 41 runs before Ranjeet Mali removed opener Samarth Singh (19). At stumps other opener Umang Sarma remained not out on 32 and he was getting accompany from Mohammad Saif (12).
