Ranji Trophy: Rishav Das hits ton but Tripura take innings lead

GUWAHATI: The third day of the Ranji Trophy tie between Assam and Tripura witnessed a dramatic turn as 14 wickets fall on a track which was a paradise for the batsmen during the first two-day.

Tripura scored 387-7 on day I and later they took their score to 497 before getting out on second day. Assam were 162-1 in their first innings at stumps on day II at ACA stadium, Barsapara.

However, on third day it was the bowlers who dominated the match. Assam today bowled out 283 in their first innings. Tripura too is struggling in the second innings and were 76-5 at stumps on day III.

Assam started their day’s proceeding from their overnight score 162-1. Opener Rishav Das finally scored a century in the season but Tripura managed to capture wickets on regular basis at the other end. Captain Gokul Sharma (41) ran out himself adding just five runs on team’s overnight total and thereafter host lost wickets one after another. Promising batsmen Riyan Parag (12) and Saahil Jain (14) failed to stay long and they were quickly followed by Wasiqur Rahman (8) and Rajjakuddin Ahmed (4) which brought Assam to 233-6.

However, Rishav Das managed to stay focus in the game and picked up his first century of the season. Earlier also he reached close to score century twice this season but on both the occasions he failed to reach three-figure score. This time he made no mistake and picked up his second first class hundred. Rishav altogether faced 283 balls to score 132 runs and there were 15 hits to the fence. Ranjeet Mali (16) and Siddharth Sarmah (11) played small but crucial innings at the fag end of the innings.

Among the bowlers of Tripura, Harmeet Singh came out with best bowling figure. Harmeet bowled 35 overs in the innings and picked up 6-110.

Tripura made poor start in the second innings and were 76-5 at stumps when the day’s play ended little early because of poor light. The side were once 5-37 but Milind (36no) put little resistance and helped Tripura to avoid losing of wickets further. Mukhtar Hussain picked up 3-41 and Ranjeet Mali collected the remaining two wickets. Visitors are now leading by 290 runs and five wickets in their hand.
