GUWAHATI: River Rine Cricket Coaching Centre defeated The Academy of Royal Cricket, Amingaon in a well contested game by 20 runs in the opening game of the 2nd TOPCEM-ASJA All Assam Inter-School/Coaching Centre U-16 Cricket Championship at the Nehru Stadium here today. With the help of scintillating batting by Mrinmoy Das (82) and Mohit Shah (73), River Rine, elected to bat, posted 220/3 in 35 overs.

In reply, Royal Cricket could manage 200 losing all the wickets in 34.4 overs. Bhairab Kakati (70) fought a lone battle without getting much support from other batters. Mohit Shah of River Rine shone again with the ball and picked up 4 wickets to make their victory easy. He was later adjudged man of the match award.

Earlier, the inaugural ceremony was attended by former bureaucrat Swapnanil Baruah, former first class cricketer and chief selector of the Assam Cricket Association Satyagopal Chakraborty, highest run getter for Assam in first class cricket Gokul Sharma, former cricketers Sazzad Zaheer Hussain and Deep Borah, founder president of Assam Sports Journalists Association (ASJA) Balendra Mohan Chakravarty and ASJA president Subodh Malla Barua.

Brief scores: River Rine 220/3 in 35 overs (Mrinmoy Das 82, Mohit Shah 73; Abu Nasim Ahmed 2/24). Royal Academy 200 all out in 34.4 overs (Bhairab Kakati 70, Arnab Kashyap 41, Abu Nasim Ahmed 40, Mohit Shah 4/18, Bhavyamanya Baruah 3/29).
