GUWAHATI: Former District Sports Officer and sports organizer Sib Shankar Roy expired this morning in the city after sudden cardiac arrest. He was 66.

Roy, a very soft spoken person, was an efficient sports organizer. He was actively associated with Assam Kho Kho Association along with a few other organizations.

Recalling his association with Roy, former Joint Directorate of the Sports and Youth Welfare Department Rajib Prakash Baruah said, "Roy was a very hardworking officer. During my long tenure in the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare he was one of the most dependable officers who can be trusted and relied upon for any work. His death is a big loss for the entire sports fraternity of the State and personally to me and my family."

Before cremation Roy's body was taken to the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare Office, RG Baruah Sports complex and District Sports Office (Kamrup Metro) where sports organizers and officials paid their last tribute to the departed soul.

Assam Olympic Association, Assam Kho Kho Association and Assam Sepak Takraw Association in separate messages mourned the death of veteran sports organizer.
