GUWAHATI: Promising swimmer Shivangi Sarma picked up another gold medal in the 3rd Khelo India Games here today. This time she bagged the gold in 100m freestyle. It was the fourth gold medals for Shivangi in the competition.
Apart from this gold Assam bagged one more medal, a bronze, on Day X of the Games. The medal came in the Weightlifting through Dimpi Dutta.
With these two medals host managed to hold the seventh spot in the tally with 41 medals. Among the 41 medals, gold and silver are 13 each and the number of bronze is 15.
Shivangi was favourite to win the 100mts Freestyle event’s gold and she performed as per the expectation. From the very beginning, she took lead and maintained it till the end. The swimmer took 59.26 sec to complete the event. Saachi Gramopahyay (1:07.41) and Kiran shet Nariyekar (1:09.71), both from Goa, bagged silver and bronze medal respectively. It was the 7th medals for Assam in the swimming (4-1-2).
In the weightlifting event, Assam bagged its 6th medal today when Dimpi Dutta won a bronze in the U-21 girl’s 71kg category. Phanjoubam Roshni of Arunachal Pradesh and Nikeeta Valmik Kale from Maharashtra collected gold and silver medal in this category.
Meanwhile U-17 boys team today ensured a silver in the football event defeating Odisha in a well-contested semi-final by 3-1. Nicodin Narzary (2) and Timothy Narzary scored for the winners while Manoranjan Soren was the lone scorer for Odisha. In the final Assam will now face Mizoram.
