Guwahati: Mayank Chakraborty of South Point School won the IXth Raktava Dutta Choudhury Memorial North East Open School Chess title which concluded at the Assam Jatiya Vidyalay School in the city today. Ashwin Sarma of Sarala Birala Gyanjyoti School came second. In the Pawn group, while Krishnav Mrinmoy Hazarika of Saint Fransisco School emerged champion, Rajat Bafna of Don Bosco finished second.

Meanwhile, the school champion trophy was lifted by Marias Public School. Host Assam Jatiya Vidayalay collected the second best school team trophy in the competition. The Youngest Player Award of the meet was handed over to Prachurya Changma of SFS School.

President of the Gauhati Sports Association Pulak Goswami attended the closing function of the four-day competition, jointly organized by Mind Sports Foundation and Assam Jatiya Vidyalay, as the chief guest. The other dignitaries present on this occasion were Dr Bhupendra Nath Sarma, noted cultural organizer Ranjan Bhattacharjee, president, secretary and the Principal of Assam Jatiya Vidyalay- Dilip Kumar Dutta Choudhury, Dr Narayan Sarma and Ghanshyam Medhi respectively.

Apart from the trophy, Mayank also received a cash award of Rs 10,000 from Assam Jatiya Vidyalay Education and Socio-Economy Trust. In the closing function, the senior sports scribe of The Sentinel Partha Chakraborty was felicitated by the organizers with a cash award of Rs 10,000 for his contribution in the field of sports journalism.
