The lone gold medal came today in the Lawn Bowls which were collected by Nayanmoni Saikia and Tania Choudhury in the doubles event. The duo defeated Jharkhand by 17-10. Mridul Borgohain also collected a bronze medal in the lawn bowls and he participated in the individual category.
In swimming Assam today collected two medals. Both the medals were silver and were won by Astha Choudhury and Bikram Changmai. The duo participated in the 200m butterfly. Shivangi, participating in the women's 50m freestyle, collected the bronze with a timing of 27.21 sec.
In the boxing Lovlina gave a good start to Assam by winning her first bout against Nishi Bhardwaj of Bihar in the 75kg category. Lovlina, who had earlier decided not to take part in the Games due to injury, returned to the ring after she received a green signal from the doctor.
The Olympic medallist boxer walked into the ring amidst cheers from the sizeable crowd, more so from the Assam contingent, and took firm control of the bout against Nishi. The difference in class was pretty evident between the opponents from either corner, with Nishi's short frame making it even more difficult for her to connect the punches and judge had to stop fight.
Meanwhile Amlan Borgohain once again came out with flying colours and picked up his second gold. This time he won the medal in the men's 200m and that too creating national record twice. Amlan created a national record twice in the event yesterday. In the heat he wrote the national record in his name with a timing of 21.06 sec. Later in the final he bettered his own record (this time 20.55) on way to win the gold medal.
In the women's section Hima Das bagged a silver in the 200m with a timing of 23.61 sec.
