GUWAHATI: Northeast United FC has a good chance to win the ISL title this season, feels Provat Lakra.

The left-back of NEUFC is also satisfied with the composition of the team.

The next edition of the ISL will kick off on November 19 in Goa with the match between Kerala Blasters and ATK Mohun Bagan. NEUFC will start their campaign next day, November 20, against Bengaluru FC at Bambolim.

Addressing a virtual media conference Prabhat, who joined the side in 2018, looked confident about his team's good show in the new season of ISL. "This season our team is very good and we are capable of lifting the title," said Lakra.

It may be mentioned here that last season NEUFC narrowly missed the final berth and finished the competition staying at third place with 33 points.

Like last year, this season also the tournament will be held in one place due to COVID-19 pandemic. So there will be no home advantage for other teams except FC Goa who will get the chance to use home turf.

However Lakra felt it would not be an issue to the participating teams. "We will play in front of an empty stand. So there would be no pressure on the players," said the defender.

Regarding new team of NEUFC for the forthcoming season Lakra told, "Our side is very good and we have quality players in all positions. I am very much optimistic that we will be able to play good soccer throughout the competition and win the title."

Apart from Lakra the other members of the NEUFC who were present in the media conference included Jestin George, Laldanmawia Ralte, Joe Zoherliana and club secretary Akshay Basrur.

Meanwhile Seagram's Imperial Blue today announced its association with the Northeast United FC. The partnership was formalized just ahead of the new season of ISL, the most anticipated football event of the country.

Commenting on the partnership Kartik Mohindra, Chief Marketing Officer, Pernod Ricard India said, "Imperial Blue believes in celebrating the passion points that resonate deeply with our consumers. We look forward to a great season of football and we wish all the luck to the team for the upcoming competition."

Priya Runchal, CEO of NEUFC, commenting on the new partnership said, "This association marks the coming together of two iconic brands that have the Northeast consumer at their heart."
