Real Kashmir FC eye win in race for second spot

Srinagar: Real Kashmir FC (RKFC) will aim to remain in the race for the I-League runners-up spot with a win over TRAU FC on Saturday. The match will be played behind closed doors at the Synthetic Turf TRC Ground Srinagar in the wake of the deadly coronavirus.

RKFC is at the fourth spot with 22 points from 15 matches, a point behind second and third-placed East Bengal and Minerva Punjab respectively. TRAU are fifth having 22 points similar to RKFC but have played two games more.

Kashmir was beaten 0-1 in their last match against East Bengal, denting their hopes of a second-place finish behind champions Mohun Bagan.

TRAU beat Indian Arrows 1-0 in their last game. A win on Saturday would put RKFC in the second spot.

But they would be without the services of key players Danish Farooq, Robin Singh, Kallum Higginbotham, all of whom are suspended for the match after picking up bookings in their ill-tempered clash with East Bengal.

RKFC has filed a complaint with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) against the referee who officiated the East Bengal match, alleging bias against them.

The match saw three red and several yellow cards being brandished by the referee. Farooq and Higginbotham were sent off while Edmund Lalrindika was given the marching orders for East Bengal. The club had also produced video instances before the AIFF to support their claims. IANS
