GUWAHATI, Sept 5: Newly elected treasurer of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Ajay Kipa today said that he would give focus on the uplift of football in the Northeast. He also announced that the AIFF would give a special thrust to promote football at the grassroots level. Kipa, the secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association, was in the city today on his way back home after his election as the treasurer of the AIFF recently. The Dr T Ao Centenary Celebration Committee and the Assam Football Association felicitated the sports organizer at a joint function in a city hotel today.

Addressing the media, Kipa said, "I belong to the Northeast. I have specific plans for the region. I feel the officials of the different state football associations in the Northeast should sit together, find out the shortcomings and work on that to march forward."

He also announced that he had a plan in his mind to introduce a separate Football League for the northeastern states. "It can be an age group or in the senior level. But we have to start it soon," said the sports organizer.

Replying to a query on the initial plans of the newly elected committee of the AIFF, Kipa told the media, "We have decided to give special emphasis on promoting football at the grassroots level. Organizing an age group football competition is also part of this plan."

Congratulating new AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey during the felicitation function, Kipa said, "The new president has already taken a good step by appointing former international IM Vijayan as the chairman of the new technical committee of the Federation."
