State Level Athletics meet begins today at Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium

GUWAHATI: A State Level Athletics meet for 400mts and 4X400mts relay will be held at the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium in the city tomorrow. Altogether 227 athletes from 23 districts will participate in the meet.

Disclosing the news to the media the president of the Assam Athletics Association (AAA) LakhyaKonwar said that to promote athletics in the State AAA has taken series of steps and this meet is part of it. The athletes who earlier won medals in the district level championship, held recently, in 400mts and 4X400 mts relay are selected to participate in tomorrow's event. The other categories would also be held one after another in the coming days.

Meanwhile Guwahati will host two top level athletic championships soon. Among the two one is East Zone Athletics meet which will be held from December 28 while the Junior National Athletics Championship will kick off in the city in February.

The chairman of the Technical Committee of the Athletics Federation of India Stanley Jones is now visiting the city in connection with the forthcoming national and East Zone meets. During this visit Stanley will discuss different matter with the key officials of the Athletics Association of Assam. In a conversation with the media Stanly today praised AAA's step to organize different event throughout the state. According to him it is the best way to find out the hidden talent.
