The Pillow Fight Championship has received its first-ever champions in an event that turned a children's sleepover activity into a professional combat sport.

At Saturday's pay-per-view event in Florida, 16 men and eight women, the majority of whom had backgrounds in mixed martial arts and boxing competed in a bracket-style competition until a champion emerged.

Brazilian Istela Nunes defeated American Kendahl Voelker in the women's final, while American Hauley Tillman defeated countryman Marcus Brimage in the men's final. Each winner took home a title belt as well as $5,000.

"The fighters don't like to get hurt, and there are a lot of people who don't want to see the blood. They want to see good competition; they just don't want to see the violence." – Steve Williams, CEO stated on their official website

Pillow Fight Championship was founded on the concept of creating a true fighting sport that would appeal to a global family audience by mixing the ancient weapon known as a "pillow" with seasoned MMA competitors and boxers, as well as stringent rules. PFC, on the other hand, is about more than simply hard-hitting pillow fighting; it's about sheer entertainment and pleasure!

PFC has swiftly grown in popularity as a sport-based display with all of the strength, stamina, and strategic skills of other more harsh combat sports, but with a lot more fun! PFC has all of the thrills of a hand-to-hand combat fight with a lot more action and no blood, the website added.

The Pillow Fight League (PFL) was a semi-professional sports league located in Toronto that included public pillow fights. The women's sport was staged in a boxing or wrestling ring as if it were a boxing or wrestling contest. In February 2004, PFL Commissioner Stacey P. Case and Honorary PFL Commissioner Craig Daniels established the League. The official league began in downtown Toronto, Canada, in The Vatikan, a goth bar. Although events were held in Montreal, Quebec, and New York City, the League's primary headquarters remained in Toronto, Ontario.
