ITANAGAR: Appreciating Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju for announcing hike of prize money of all national sports awards on Saturday, Karate Association of India president Likha Tara and Indian Weightlifting Federation vice president Abrham K Techi said that this would cast a magic spell on Arunachal Pradesh known for huge hidden sports talents.

Pointing out that Arunchalees have won many global medals in many sports categories, particularly in karate and weightlifting during last few years, they said this higher cash award would make sportspersons serious during training process and also catapult a competition while facing any completion to win more laurels.

While referring to priority attention of present state government in developing sports infrastructures, they said that along with infrastructures appointment of trained coaches would help the players to sharpen their skills to carve a niche for themselves in national and global sports events.

Abrham recalled that Secunderabad-based Army's Boys Sports Company during talent hunt mission at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun and Sange Lhaden Sports Academy, Chimpu during February 2017 had selected seven young boys for coaching and educating them with free fooding, boarding and clothes.

Arunachalee players had proved their talents in Khelo India Youth Games conducted at Pune in January 2019 by winning 14 medals, including nine medals (four silver and five bronze) in weightlifting, Abraham added.
