USA, Brazil advance into Volleyball National League semis

RIMINI: Brazil has advanced into the women's Volleyball National League semifinals after sweeping South Korea 3-0 here on Friday.

Although there are still two rounds left in the women's round-robin preliminaries, Brazil, who recorded 11 wins and 34 points, secured its position within the top four.

"I feel that every day is like a final game because more than ever, we are fighting for the best possible ranking. So every day is a final day for us. We still have to keep the rhythm until the end, because our goal is to be in the final," said Brazil player Fe Gara.

The United States, who has the unbeaten record in the 2021 edition's league, had confirmed its semifinal ticket earlier this week.

The final uncertainty about the semifinals is whether China will make it into the top four. The reigning Olympic champion has climbed to the fifth on the table after its fifth straight win on Friday.

China dispatched its all-star lineup to ease past Russia 3-0 in the Friday match. However, legendary coach Lang Ping's team still needs to defeat Poland and the United States to sustain its faint hope for the semifinals. Agencies
