Itanagar: Doimukh MLA Tana Hali flagged off the two-day Valley Trail Championship, a mountain terrain bike competition from Itanagar to Seppa, at Nyokum Lapang here on Tuesday in presence of Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) corporator Yukar Yaro.

Organized by the Arunachal Amateur Bicycle Association (AABA), the championship is a part of the Nyokum Yullo Golden Jubilee Celebration, Seppa in East Kameng district.

As many as 32 riders from across the country, mainly Maharasthra, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, including five female riders, are competing in the championship.

While wishing all the riders, especially from outside the State, a happy Nyokum Yullo, MLA Hali said it is one of the biggest of festivals of the Nyishi community.

Urging everyone to take up cycling as a healthy habit, Hali said it is one of the 'oldest modes of transportation without fuelling'.

AABA president Martar Riba said the Association, formed in 2018, promotes cycling as a sports and tourism activity in the State.

Informing about the championship, Riba said the rally would be in two-phase: the first day is between Itanagar and Sagali, covering a distance of 82 km while the next day would be from Pakke Kessang to Seppa, which is about 100 km.

AABA treasurer and race coordinator Chandra Sono Yangfo said the association, ever since its formation, has been promoting cycling habits by organising events in different parts of the State through its affiliates.
