We are always there for the youngsters: Shikhar Dhawan

Bengaluru: Keeping an eye on the World T20 in 2020, the Indian team management has already made it clear that youngsters will be given opportunities to showcase their talents and opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has gone a step further and said that the senior members in the team are always open to helping the new boys in the team.

“For senior players like us, say someone like Rishabh (Pant) comes in to bat or Shreyas (Iyer) coming in, we make sure we do the communication with them and make sure they are comfortable and not nervous. We make them think what is needed at that particular moment,” he said on the eve of the third T20I between India and South Africa at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The opener went on to add that even the senior members in the team keep discussing strategies and the way forward as communication is an important tool.

“That’s what we do even when I am batting with Rohit (Sharma) or Virat (Kohli), we keep discussing and that is very important. Communication is very, very important. Any time any youngster wants to discuss something with us, we are always there for them,” he pointed.

The young Indian bowlers have been doing really well in recent times with both Deepak Chahar and Washington Sundar providing the team with quality breakthroughs through the innings and Dhawan said that these things will build their confidence going into the World T20. IANS
