GUWAHATI: Weightlifter Sidhant Gogoi gave Assam fourth-medal in the Goa National Games on Wednesday. Sidhant, participated in the 67 kg weight category, lifted 116 kg in snatch and 150kg in clean and Jerk.The performance was enough to ensure a silver medal in the competition for Sidhant. Earlier Assam won three medals in the Games and all of them came in badminton where women team won gold and men team collected a bronze. The other medal, a bronze, came in Mixed Doubles event through Suraj Goala and Manali Bora.
Meanwhile the 37th National Games will officially kick off at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda in Goa on Thursday. A 15-member Assam team will participate in the players’ march past. Weightlifter Sidhant Gogoi and gymnast Upasa Talukdar named as flag bearers of the State contingent.
It may be mentioned here that nearly 350 players and officials from Assam are taking part in 27 disciplines in this edition of the Games.
