Women volleyball match conducted in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: A women friendly volleyball match was in Lakhimpur district on Saturday under the tag of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme, which has been implemented across the nation since January 22, 2015. The match was organized by District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Lakhimpur, Department of Women and Child Development, Lakhimpur under Lakhimpur district administration in collaboration with Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, Lakhimpur. The match commenced at Lakhimpur Girls’ College playground from 11:00 am and it was inaugurated by Lakhimpur District Commissioner Sumit Sattawan. The inaugural session of the volleyball match was held under the management of Gender Specialist Kuki Baruah. The welcome address was delivered by ADC Sulakshyana Borpatra Gohain. She also highlighted the aims and objectives of the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme. On the other hand, District Commissioner Sumit Sattawan said that women should be empowered in order to propel the development in the society. He called upon all to create an environment to ensure security and education to girl child by wiping out prejudice from the society.

The inaugural session of the volleyball match was also attended by Assistant Commissioner Pallavi Borah, Lakhimpur Girls’ College principal Dr. Surajit Bhuyan along with the faculties of the college, DIPRO Mandira Cha-yengiya, officials of the District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Lakhimpur and Department of Women and Child Development, Lakhimpur and other prominent citizens.
