HANGZHOU: The Indian contingent has been able to add another silver medal to its total tally with Olympian and World Champion Lovlina Borgohain bagged the silver medal in Women’s Boxing. She lost to China’s Li Qian with 5-0 on the scoreboard.
At the end of the third round of the final bout of the 75 kg weight category, Li Qian was able to beat Lovlina Borgohain with a unanimous decision. The final reading on the scorecards read 30-26, 30-26, 29-27, 29-27 and 29-27 in favour of Li Qian. She had earlier qualified for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics when she qualified for the Finals.
Lovlina Borgohain was born in Golaghat District of Assam. Her parents are Tiken and Mamoni Borgohain. A former Muay Thai practitioner, Lovlina Borgohain is the youngest of three sister-siblings and got interested in boxing after seeing her twin sisters, Licha and Lima decide to take up kickboxing and follow the same trail. When the Sports Authority of India held trials at her high school Barpathar Girls High School, where Lovlina Borgohain participated. She was noticed and selected by renowned Coach Padum Chandra Bodo at the SAI STC Guwahati in 2012 to learn the basics of boxing and to achieve excellence in boxing. She was later coached by Sandhya Gurung.
She was born on 2 October 1997 and plays for India in the 75 kg weight category in women’s boxing. Her current training base is the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports in Patiala.
