New Delhi: India's badminton start PV Sindhu on Sunday won the Singapore Open 2022 after thrashing China's Wang Zhiyi in the final.
The Indian star defeated Zhiyi 21-9 11-21 21-15 in the summit clash.
With this, Sindhu has become the second Indian women's shuttler and third Indian overall to win the Singapore Open title.
Prior to Sindhu, Saina Nehwal won the title in 2010 in women's singles while B Sai Praneeth clinched the same in 2017 in men's singles.
After this win, Sindhu is eyeing for a gold in the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
Coming to game, Sindhu faced a tough competition from Zhiyi in the women's singles final of the Singapore Open as the Chinese player started on a good note in the first game and scored 2 points in a row. However, after this Sindhu fought back and showed a good game by scoring 13 points in a row. After this, Sindhu didn't turn back and won the first game easily 21-9.
In the second game, the Chinese too came back and scored 6 points in a row which was later reduced to some extent as Sindhu grabbed two points. But, Zhiyi again took the lead over the net and clinched more than 8 points and then won the second game by 21-11.
In the third game too, Zhiyi got a great start and grabbed three points. Notably, Sindhu trailed for the first time in the final. However, soon after this, the Chinese made a mistake and Sindhu took advantage of this and took a one-point lead.
Sindhu was leading with 11-6 at the break in the third game. But, after this the Chinese player scored 3 points in a row, narrowing the lead to 2 points. Eventually, Sindhu kept the pressure aside and again took a lead of 4 points and won the Singapore Open title after winning the third game by 21-15.
