Assam Spoil Advantage Of Good Start

Guwahati: Assam failed to take advantage from a good start on the opening day of their second Ranji Trophy tie against Uttar Pradesh at Lahli today. Invited to bat, Assam were bowled out 265 in their first innings and Uttar Pradesh finished the day 10-0 in the first innings.

The highlight of day's match was two good knocks from Riyan Parag and promising opener Subham Mondal. Both of them scored half century on Day I.

Assam made descent start in the morning and the opening partnership between Subham Mandal and Rishav Das (30) produced 57 runs on the opening partnership. Pallav Kumar Das (5) didn't stay too long on the wicket. However third wicket partnership between Riyan and Subham nicely repaired the damage and added 88 runs. But once the partnership was broken Uttar Pradesh strongly came back into the game. Assam lost last seven wickets for 88 and last six batsmen of the team failed to score double-digit runs.

Both Subham and Riyan nicely built their innings today. Subham faced 143 balls to score 56 and there were eight hits to the fence. Riyan narrowly missed a century. The batsman, who came into bat at number four position, played a well composed knock of 91 runs which came in just 79 balls. There were 10 boundaries and five over boundaries in his innings. Gokul Sarma (49) was the other major contributor. Aaqib Khan and Karan Sharma bagged three wickets each for UP.

Meanwhile at the ACA Stadium, Barsapara Delhi scored 28-1 in reply to Jharkhand's first innings total 251. While captain of Jharkhand Virat Singh (103) scored century Md Nazim put 52 runs on the board. Navdeep Saini (37) and Vikash Mishra (3-65) were the main wicket takers for Delhi.

At the Nehru stadium Tamil Nadu, rode on two good knocks from B Aparajith (101) and B Indrajit (127), scored 308-4 in the first innings at stumps on day I against Chhattisgarh. The third wicket partnership between B Aparajith and B Indrajit produced 206 runs from 285 balls.
