NEW DELHI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a statement informing that the All India Senior Selection Committee has chosen Indian Cricketer Rohit Sharma as the new caption of ODIs (One Day Internationals) and T20I (Twenty20 International) of Team India.

Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma, 34, is selected to take over all the responsibilities as a current captain from Virat Kohli, the former captain who had given up his T20I captaincy position 3 months ago after the T20 World Cup 2021.

Rohit is named and selected as the current captain by AISSC (All India Senior Selection Committee) to perform all the duties in leading the Indian team confirming the removal of Kohali as informed by BCCI through a press release on Wednesday.

Earlier a few days ago the Indian Team was led by Rohit in the T20I series playing against the team of New Zealand but during that period the selection committee did not officially make the announcement of Rohit being the captain of T20I. Notably, though Virat Kohli is replaced by Rohit Sharma he didn't step down from his role in the one Day Internationals.

In another interesting change, Rohit also replaced the position of Ajinkya Rahane and became the vice-captain of the test team as named by the selection committee. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) along with this major announcement of captain replacement also declared a Test squad for the upcoming tournament of South Africa.

The first test will commence from 26 December in Centurion by Virat Kohli-led side playing against Proteas. On 3 January the 2nd test is scheduled to begin that will be held on Johannesburg and the 3rd match will be organized in Cape Town starting from 11 January.
