BCCI Banned Several Brands from Being Title Sponsors of Indian Cricket Team

NEW DELHI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has requested bids from interested businesses for the national cricket team's lead sponsorship rights. This action follows the decision of ed-tech company BYJU to terminate their $35 million contract with the board, citing a reduction in branding expenditure as the reason.

In a statement, the board requested proposals from reputable organizations to acquire the national team's sponsor rights. On receipt of a non-refundable charge of Rs 5,00,000 + 90,000 GST, the terms and conditions will be made available.

BCCI has severed its connection with Byju's and replaced them with Adidas as their jersey sponsor. However, the board is looking for a new lead sponsor for the Men in Blue, and they are expected to draw large money given the upcoming fifty-over World Cup.

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir recently criticized past cricketers for advertising tobacco brands, saying it sets a bad example for future generations. India will tour the West Indies next month, playing matches in all forms.

List of Brands banned by BCCI:

(A) Athleisure and Sportswear Manufacturer;

(B) Alcohol Products;

(C) Betting;

(D) Cryptocurrency;

(E) Real Money Gaming (Except Fantasy Sports Gaming);

(F) Tobacco; and

(G) one which is likely to offend public morals such as, including but not limited to, pornography.

The bid for sponsorship rights is expected to garner a lot of interest, especially with the impending ODI World Cup in India later this year. The name of the major sponsor will appear on the front of the Indian cricket team's jersey, offering unrivalled visibility and publicity.

BCCI Secretary in a statement said that , “Any interested party who wishes to submit a bid must first purchase the ITT. However, only those who meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the ITT and agree to the additional terms and conditions outlined in the ITT will be able to bid. It is made clear that simply obtaining the ITT does not entitle anyone to bid.”
