New Delhi: In another tragic blow for the sport, former all-rounder Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds died on Saturday night as his car crashed.

As per reports, Symond's car came off the road in Townsville on Saturday night and the cricketer died in the accident. After his death, there is a wave of mourning in the sports world including his fans. Recently, Australian cricket also lost Shane Warne.

"Preliminary information indicated that the car was being driven on Hervey Range Road near Ellis River Bridge just after 11 p.m. The car rolled off the road and the accident occurred. Emergency services were called to save the 46-year-old, however, he died due to his injuries. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating," read a police statement.

According to a News Corp report, Symonds' family issued a statement "confirming his passing, and appreciated the sympathy and well wishes of the people, and asked that his privacy be respected."

Symonds, who played 198 ODIs for Australia, was also part of the 2003 and 2003 World Cup squads. In these two years, the Kangaroo team won back to back titles under the captaincy of Ponting without losing any match. Apart from this, this great player also played 26 Tests for Australia.
