GUWAHATI: The Governing Body of the Assam Football Association (AFA) termed the allegation of financial anomalies raised by its joint secretary, Samvid Sarma, against the secretary, Hemendra Nath Brahma, and Treasurer, Hiren Gogoi, as baseless. The body today took the decision to expel Sarma for life from the association.

It may be mentioned here that Sarma alleged that both Brahma and Gogoi were involved in financial anomalies in connection with the World Cup Qualifier between India and Oman that was held in Guwahati in 2019.

The allegation leveled by Sarma was discussed in the Governing Body Meeting of the Assam Football Association held in the city today, and most of the members felt that the allegation was false and baseless. The secretary of the Assam Football Association, Hemendra Nath Brahma, informed The Sentinel that several members in the meeting opined on the expulsion of Sarma for life from the association, and it was later accepted. The decision was later referred to the Annual General Meeting for final approval. The Annual General Meeting of the Assam Football Association will be held on Sunday, where the new executive committee of the association will also be formed.
