GUWAHATI: Guwahati is all set to make its debut as the host city of IPL. Rajasthan Royals will take on Punjab Kings under floodlights at the ACA Stadium, Barsapara here on Wednesday. The match will begin at 7-30 PM.

Both the teams arrived in the city after registering victory over their respective opponents in the first match. While Rajasthan Royals in their opening game beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 72 runs Punjab Kings registered 7-run DLS victory over KKR.

The wicket in Guwahati is considered as one of the best wickets in the country and is capable of producing a high scoring match. Both the teams hinted today that they are expecting a huge total on this surface.

Riyan Parag, the local boy who is a key member of Rajasthan Royals, will play his first IPL match in Guwahati. The all-rounder in the pre-match press conference today admitted that batters could get advantage at the ACA Stadium. “The wicket at the ACA Stadium always helps the batters and we have witnessed many high scoring games here during previous ODI and T20I. It is likely to happen this time also,” said Riyan.

Riyan, who is on the verge to play 50th IPL matches, also mentioned that their bowlers were skilled enough to bowl on any pitches. Everyone, including himself, sorted out plans on how to bowl on a flat wicket.

When asked about his team’s plan for the season Riyan said, “Winning the title this season is our ultimate goal. We have made a good start in the championship. It’s a very long tournament and we want to take one game at a time.”

Punjab Kings spin bowling coach Sunil Joshi who addressed the media today also hinted that the match will be a high scoring game.

Although the city witnessed light drizzle for the last few days, no rain was forecast at the time of the match tomorrow. Several cultural shows will be held prior to the match and it will be followed by a laser show during the break on Wednesday.
