NEW DELHI: The Indian Cricket Council (ICC) announced that India will be facing Pakistan in the opening match of the ICC Women's World Cup that is scheduled to take place on 6 March 2022 in Tauranga city of New Zealand.

The ICC has shared the dates and locations along with the details about the teams of the upcoming World Cup tournament next year.

In the upcoming year, the World Cup tournament will be hosted by New Zealand and the host country will play against West Indies in the first match of the event that will be held on 4 March 2022 at the Bay Oval location in Tauranga.

In the next match following the hosts match on 4 March, the defending champions England will play the match against team Australia at Seddon Park in Hamilton, Canada.

The ICC Women's World Cup will be continued for more than a month i.e. 31 days and a total of 8 teams from different countries will be competing with each other in a total of 31 matches. The Indian Cricket Council (ICC) said that the World Cup will be played initially in a league format. After competing against each other by the eight teams the top 4 teams that win will be regarded as qualified for the semi-final matches.

The first semi-final match of the ICC Women's World Cup is scheduled to be held on 30 March 2022 and it will be played at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.

After the completion of the first semi-finals, the second semi-finals will take place on the next day on 31 March at the Hagley Oval, New Zealand. The finals of the tournament are scheduled for 3 April 2022 and according to ICC the semi-finals and finals will have a reserve day.

Along with the information that India will play against team Pakistan in the opening encounter, the Indian Cricket Council also stated that New Zealand gets automatically qualified for the tournament for being the hosts this year, and other countries such as England, India, South Africa and Australia are qualified on the basis of their position ICC Women's Championship 2017-20.
