India Qualifies for World Test Championship Finals

MUMBAI: The Indian Cricket Team which is currently playing the fourth and final match of the popular Border Gavaskar Trophy has automatically qualified for the finals of the World Test Championship. New Zealand defeating Sri Lanka in a dramatic match is the reason for India qualifying for the match irrespective of the results of the current test match with the Australian Team.

New Zealand managed to defeat Sri Lanka in one of the most dramatic matches in the game. The game went down to the very last ball in the first test played on the Christchurch ground. Now India will meet the Australians again in the final match of the World Test Championship which is scheduled to take place in the legendary Oval ground on June 7. Australia had qualified as the first team to the finals when they defeated India in the third match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Winning the final test against the Australian team was one of the conditions for India to join them again for the WTC finals. The second condition was New Zealand defeating Sri Lanka. While the Ahmedabad test is heading for a draw on the final day on Monday, New Zealand's defeating the Sri Lankans has cleared the way for the Indians. Even of they manage to draw the match, India will be winning the series as they are already leading the series 2-1.

This means that the Indian Test Team has won a series against New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Australia at home and Bangladesh in an away contest. They lost with the South Africans and managed to draw with the England team. Meanwhile, Australia has managed to defeat England, West Indies and South Africa at home and Pakistan abroad and drew with Sri Lanka as well as faces a possible defeat in the ongoing series.
