IPL 2023: BCCI to Plant 500 Trees For Every Dot Ball To Support Sustainability Initiative

NEW DELHI: During the current IPL, BCCI has launched a commendable "Go Green" campaign. For every dot ball bowled throughout the whole playoffs, the governing body will plant 500 trees as part of an effort to contribute to environmental preservation. The playoff match between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings has started. This Tuesday, March 23, 2023, is Qualifier 1 day, and both teams are competing.

It is to note that, a bowled delivery known as a "Dot Ball" had no runs added to its total. It is known as a "dot ball" because, in the scorebook, a batsman's inability to score runs is indicated by a single dot, thus the name.

Meanwhile, before the game, the BCCI made no formal notification about the plan. However, a tree emoji rather than a dot ball was displayed in the scorecard by the league's official broadcasters. Later, the broadcasters began referring to it as "Green Dot Balls."

The Gujarat Titans chose to bowl first after winning the toss. When given the opportunity to bat, Chennai Super Kings scored 172 runs. So far in the first inning, 34 dot balls have been registered. As many as 17000 trees that will be planted across the nation as a result of this have already been planted.

Meanwhile, on at Tuesday at Chepauk, CSK defeated the Gujarat Titans (GT) by a score of 15 runs while holding them to 172 in Qualifier 1. Deepak Chahar, Maheesh Theekshana, Ravindra Jadeja, and Matheesha Pathirana all picked up a few wickets, and together they helped knock GT out for 157 at the conclusion of 20 overs.

Ruturaj Gaikwad was named Player of the Match for his 60-run innings off of 44 pitches on a moderately difficult wicket. Gaikwad was really out caught in the game's second over by GT pacer Darshan Nalkande. However, because Nalkande had crossed the crease, that delivery was ruled to be a no-ball, providing the CSK opener with a crucial reprieve.
