New Delhi: Virat Kohli has decided to put an end to his career as Test captain and the same was announced by him on Saturday via social media.
Kohli will be seen playing for the Indian team as a batsman in all three formats. Meanwhile, after this decision of Kohli, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President, Sourav Ganguly has reacted on the same and said that it's his personal decision.
Taking to the micro-blogging site twitter, Ganguly tweeted, said, ''Under Virat's leadership Indian cricket has made rapid strides in all formats of the game ..his decision is a personal one and bcci respects it immensely ..he will be an important member to take this team to newer heights in the future. A great player. well done ..@BCCI @imVkohli."
Significantly, there has been an increase in tussle between Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly in recent times. On 8 December, Virat was removed from the captaincy of the ODI team. After this Ganguly had told that he had advised Virat not to give up the captaincy of T20, but Virat Kohli refused to continue the captaincy.
After this Virat Kohli had a press conference before leaving for South Africa and what he said in the press conference was completely opposite to Sourav Ganguly's statement.
''When I took this decision, I had informed the BCCI. At that time this decision was taken in the right way. Nobody told me that I should continue as the captain of T20,'' he had said when asked about leaving the T20 captaincy.
Virat Kohli is the most successful Test captain of India. Under Kohli's captaincy, India won 40 out of 68 Test matches. In countries like Australia, England and West Indies, under the captaincy of Virat, India made its mark in Test cricket.
Apart from this, Virat also had a great record as captain in ODIs and T20 Internationals.
