Melbourne: The ongoing conflict between Novak Djokovic and Australian vaccination policy has taken a new turn after his visa got revoked for failing to comply with the pandemic entry requirements.
The Serb got detained by border patrol officials upon his arrival on 5 January and he is currently being held at an immigration detention facility in Melbourne.
The World Number One has fought back against possible deportation from Australia by launching a court bid in the hope that he be allowed to stay in the country.
The Court officials have said that Judge Anthony Kelly would be present at 4:00 pm (05:00 GMT) to hear Novak's appeal against imminent deportation.
The Serb is quite skeptic of the coronavirus vaccine as a result of which he is reluctant to take it.
Djokovic has never spoken publicly about his vaccination status but he criticized mandates ruling that players must be double-jabbed.
He had previously said that he was unsure whether he would compete at the Grand Slam due to concerns over Australia's quarantine rules.
However, Djokovic had received a medical exemption from having a Covid 19 vaccination and he shared this news via a tweet along with a picture of him at an airport.
"I've spent fantastic quality time with my loved ones over the break and today I'm heading Down Under with an exemption permission. Let's go 2022," his tweet read.
It is to be noted that the Serb is the defending Australian Open Champion. He has clinched the slam down under for a record nine times and has lifted the trophy three times consecutively during the previous three editions (2021, 2020, 2019).
