LONDON: Cristian Garin produced the greatest match of his career to come back from two sets and 3-0 down and pulled off a dramatic win against Australia's Alex De Minaur 2-6, 5-7, 7-6(3), 6-4, 7-6(6) at Wimbledon here on Monday. The 26-year-old world No. 43 broke new ground in the most dramatic way possible where the Chilean engineered a stirring comeback victory against Alex de Minaur to reach his maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal.
Nick Kyrgios of Australia also made it to the quarterfinals for the first time in eight years at Wimbledon, beating American Brandon Nakashima in a thrilling five-setter.The unseeded Australian, who needed medical attention on Centre Court for his shoulder, and who dropped the opening set, won 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(2), 3-6, 6-2 to advance to a match against Chile's Cristian Garin.
Meanwhile Elena Rybakina advanced to the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time in her career after a hard-fought 7-5, 6-3 win over Petra Martic of Croatia here on Monday.
It took Rybakina, the No. 17 seed, one hour and 20 minutes to overcome the world No. 80 Croatian in a match that was tighter than the 7-5, 6-3 scoreline suggested.
