GUWAHATI: The Special Court, Assam, in Guwahati has commenced the trial process into the ‘Cash-for-Job’ APSC (Assam Public Service Commission) scam. In this regard, the Court will furnish each of the accused with copies of those documents based on which the case is being investigated so that each of them can have a scope to come up with self-defense when they appear before the Court. The accused will be handed over the copies within this month. After this phase, charges will be framed against the accused persons.

Presently, the Investigating Officer (IO) is assisting the Court in preparing the documents — with each copy containing more than 1000 pages approximately, informed sources.

Meanwhile, Police has already arrested more than 70 persons including ACS (Assam Civil Service), APS (Assam Police Service) and officials of the allied services besides the then Chairman (now suspended) of APSC, Rakesh Kumar Paul. Copies of the Court documents will now be given to these 70 persons.

Four other accused are absconding. Meanwhile, Paul has been in judicial custody in Guwahati Jail for more than three years now. Dibrugarh Police arrested Paul in November 2016.
