GUWAHATI: With a view to defeat coronavirus, the Asom Satra Mahasabha (ASM) has requested all xatras and naamghars of the State to light earthen lamps every day and pray for making the world free from ailments and also for the restoration of peace globally. The ASM has said that this has to be done by staying well within the ambit of the COVID-19 guidelines issued by the State government. The ASM has also appealed to the people of the State to remain indoors to defeat the virus.

The COVID-19 guidelines issued by the State government have restricted all public gatherings in temples, masjids, churches or other religious places. The guidelines allow not more than three devotees to conduct their routine activities.

Talking to The Sentinel, ASM general secretary Kusum Kumar Mahanta said, “COVID-19 guidelines have to be obeyed by all. However, a section of people comes out of their homes without any valid reason. We appeal to them to stay indoors so as to stay free from ailment and let others enjoy good health. If we can have patience now, we can slowly go back to our normal lifestyle after defeating the virus.”

Mahanta further said, “While doctors and other medicos have been fighting coronavirus through medical science, we can fight it out with prayers and by creating awareness among the people. I appeal to all naamghars and xatras of the State to light earthen oil lamps and pray for defeating the virus and also for the restoration of world peace. This, however, has to be done by just two or three persons, not more.”

A number of xatras of the State have contributed to the State government’s fund for fighting the coronavirus outbreak.
