JORHAT: The lockdown period may not be extended but the government is contemplating on an alternative arrangement for checking mass gatherings.

In an interaction with the media here on Friday, State Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma dropped a hint that schools and colleges may be closed till June.

On gatherings in the State Secretariat, Sarma said, “The public flock to the State Secretariat for jobs like transfers and postings. If transfers and postings are stopped, the gatherings will automatically come down.”

The minister suggested that while weekly markets throughout the State should be closed for an indefinite time, the timing for regular shops could be increased up to 12 midnight to avoid the crowd.

The Minister reviewed preparedness for corona in Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) on Friday. He was accompanied by his deputy Pijush Hazarika, and Minister Atul Bora and other officials.
