State Fire and Emergency Services set to procure Robotic Firefighter

GUWAHATI: Robotic firefighting is set to become a reality in Assam. Two other devices – a Side Scan Sonar and an Aerial Drone – are also set to be procured by the State Fire and Emergency Services. All these three, first of their kinds in the Northeast, are set to add more power to the department.
The robotic firefighting system, according to sources in the department, is designed with certain tasks like analysing and locating fires, conducting search and rescue operations, monitoring hazardous variables etc in sight. Since the robot is operated with a remote-controlled device it can bring a blazing fire under control from 90 metres away. It can also run over a blazing inferno as and when the situation demands so.
A side-sonar scan, on the other hand, can take the image of an object or see it lying as deep as 60 metres under water. This device, usually being used by the Indian Navy, can be highly effective in any rescue operation from water.
Apart from these three devices, the department is going to procure 16 Quick Response Tenders (QRTs), three Advanced Rescue Tenders, three water bowsers, ten Inflatable Rescue Boats (IRBs) and 280 fire proximity suits and two Water Mist & CAF Extinguishers during this financial year.
