GUWAHATI: Activities in the Auniati Xatra branches in the State have shrunk to only prayers for defeating COVID-19, that too, with just two or three devotees. These religious places of Srimanta Sankardev and Sri Sri Madhavdev have been following the COVID-19 guidelines to the letter.
Talking to The Sentinel, Dr. Pitambar Dev Goswami, the Xatradhikar of Sri Sri Auniati Xatra in Majuli, said, “If my memory serves me right, mass gatherings in Xatra were never prohibited. However, it has happened this time in the wake of the outbreak of coronavirus. Since human civilization has to survive, COVID-19 guidelines have to be obeyed in its true spirit.”
Dr. Dev Goswami further said, “Now prevention is the only cure for coronavirus infection. Social distancing is a must. However, it is seen that some people are violating the directives issued by the government on the lockdown. I appeal to all people to stay indoors. Cleanliness is an attribute of Xatras. In the wake of the outbreak of coronavirus, the Xatras are cleaner now. If we defy the directives on COVID-19 issued by the government, we’ll only invite fratricidal killings and perish the way the Yadu Bansh (the race of Lord Srikrishna) perished from this earth. Social distancing has to be maintained even while buying essential commodities.”
Meanwhile, Sri Sri Auniati Xatra, Majuli extended Rs 55,555 as donations to the State government for fighting the virus.
