GUWAHATI: 160 Assam students were in Ukraine till Monday. However, 13 of them arrived in New Delhi today. As of now, 31 Assam students returned to the state from Ukraine.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "We are in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for the safe evacuation of Assam students from Ukraine. We are trying to evacuate all the students of Assam stranded in Ukraine without delay."

Assam officials stand by at Delhi and Mumbai airports to provide logistic support to the Ukraine-returnee students of the state. Official sources said that the deputy commissioners obtained information from parents that till Monday, 59 students from Kamrup (M); nine each from Darrang, Nagaon and Nalbari; seven each from Udalguri and Biswanath Chariali; six from Dibrugarh; and five each from Dhubri and Cachar were in Ukraine. Students from 29 districts of Assam are there.

The 13 Assam students who arrived in New Delhi this afternoon are Hirakjyoti Deka, Anmol Shekhar Das, Anamika Baishya, Manjur Alam, Samadrita Hazarika, Manisha Wahid, Manisha Baishya, Alibhia Rajmedhi, Farmi Nashrin Sultana, Pratiksha Gogoi, Karina Baruah, Udangshree Basumatary and Bastobika Das.

The Chief Secretary has instructed all the deputy commissioners to ascertain through talks with parents if more students from the state are in Ukraine. The Chief Secretary is monitoring the process.
