GUWAHATI: Cross-voting is at its crescendo in Assam, where 50 per cent of the Opposition legislators voted for NDA's presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu. The opposition strength in the state is 44 – Congress 27, AIUDF 15, CPI-M 1 and 1 independent. Strangely enough, Murmu got 22 opposition votes from Assam.

The BJP alliance's strength in the state is 79 – BJP 63, AGP 9 and UPPL 7. Three legislators of the BPF extended outside support to the BJP, raising the ruling alliance's strength to 82.

124 of the 126 legislators of the state cast votes from Assam, as two MLAs of the AIUDF were absent. However, Murmu got 104 votes from Assam, 22 more than the total votes of the BJP-led alliance's 82 votes.
