GUWAHATI: Twenty-eight people died of the COVID-19 in the State on Saturday when 2,375 new cases were detected. The positivity rate in the State during the day was 1.77 per cent. As many as 316 new cases were detected in Golaghat district, followed by Jorhat with 231, Kamrup (M) with 168, Lakhimpur with 166, Sonitpur with 146, Dibrugarh with 140.
Health Minister Keshab Mahanta instructed the Health Department and the district administrations that as and when they detect the COVID-19 virus in any person, they should make immediate arrangements for the COVID tests of other members of the family. Apart from that, they should identify the people who came into contact with the person testing COVID positive and conduct tests, he said.
He also said that the department should speed up COVID testing in all COVID hotspot areas in the State.
Mahanta also asked the police, the district administrations and the Health Department to keep a close watch to avoid any rumours relating to vaccination and COVID treatment.
