3 arrested for involvement in loan scams in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: In a major operation, Guwahati City Police on Friday night busted a massive cyber fraud racket and seized a large number of objectionable items. The team also arrested three individuals in connection to these items.

Acting on intelligence inputs, the Crime Branch and Dispur Police raided the Builtwell Apartment situated at Kalyanpur, near the Jama Masjid. The names of the arrested individuals are Shekabuddin (24), Inzamamul Islam (26) and Wakibul Islam (23) from the Morigaon district.

The following items were recovered from the possession of the accused person Inzamul Islam -58 Airtel SIM cards, 3 Jio SIM cards, 107 Idea SIM cards, 634 Vodafone SIM cards, 12 mobile handsets (5 Redmi, 3 Oneplus, 1 Realme, 1 iPhone 14 plus and 2 keypad mobiles), 2 laptops, One 32 Gb and one 8 Gb memory card, 10 ATM cards, 5 stamps of different colleges ( including colleges from Bihar, Bangalore, different districts of Assam) and 239 GPay UPI id scanners.

According to the police, these people availed loans from various online loan-providing merchants using forged documents. These included student loans as well. They also used to order items online using fake credentials.
