65,845 cases of crimes against women registered in Assam

GUWAHATI: A total of 65,845 cases of crimes against women and adolescent girls have been registered in Assam in the last five-and-half years.

According to Assam Police sources, since 2016 till July 31, 2021, altogether 65,845 cases of crime against women and adolescent girls have been registered across the State. Of this, charge sheets have been filed in 38,412 cases.

In 2016, the number of cases registered was 8,963 while the number of cases which were charge sheeted is 5,053.

In 2017, the figures went up: A total of 6,441 charge sheets were filed while 11, 873 cases were registered.

In 2018, as against 13,142 registered cases, only 7,279 were charge sheeted. In 2019, the number of cases registered was 13,770 while the number of cases charge sheeted was 8,493.

In 2020, as against the 11,836 registered cases, 7,879 were charge sheeted. In 2021 till July 31, the number of cases registered was 6,261 while 3,267 were charge sheeted.

RAPE CASES: Police sources further informed that from 2016 till July 31, 2021, a total 7,607 cases of rape against women below 18 years of age were registered across Assam. Of this, chargesheet was filed in 5,923 cases against 6,249 accused persons.

During the same period, altogether 11,086 rape cases were registered of women above 18 years of age. Out them, chargesheet was filed in 8,020 cases against 9,198 accused persons.
