GUWAHATI: To ensure more people-centric services at the circle offices level in the State, the Assam government has placed the services of 71 ACS (Assam Civil Service) officers as circle officers and circle officers attached. Towards this end, the Personnel Department has already issued an official notification.

The development will make these ACS officers work under the Revenue and Disaster Management Department. The Revenue Department would soon issue a notification with the place of posting for each officer of the 71 officers.

As several circle officers' posts and circle officers attached were lying vacant, the service delivery system at the circle offices level had been affected. With this decision of the new Himanta Biswa Sarma government, service delivery at the circle office level is expected to get a boost.

Circle officers play an important role as they ensure smooth, effective and efficient functioning of revenue administration (land-related issues). They have also extended their services for preparation of electoral roll, issuing different certificates, flood-related issues, among others. Even circle officers have monitored and taken care of responsibilities in different departments as and when necessary at the local level.

The 71 ACS officers are from 2016, 2017 and 2019 batches. Many of them have been serving as Assistant Commissioner, Election Officer, Collector, Valuation Officer and Assistant Chief Electoral Officer.
