GUWAHATI: On the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 71st birthday on Friday, Assam scripted a record by administering Covid-19 vaccine doses to 7.86 lakh people.
At the direction of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, 4,575 Covid vaccination centres got functional on Friday to make the mega vaccination drive a success, Health department officials here said. Cachar inoculated the highest number of 64,825 people, followed by Nagaon with 59,661, Tinsukia with 54,185, Barpeta with 51,492, Dhubri with 40,106, Kamrup (M) 39,249, Kamrup with 30,284, Dibrugarh with 28,150 etc., sources said.
The Chief Minister said that in terms of Covid vaccination, Assam made good progress as 75 per cent of the total eligible population already receiving Covid jabs, including 20 per cent who received both doses.
Around 2.18 crore Covid vaccine doses – 1.73 crore first doses and 45.26 lakh second dose – inoculated in the state so far. Health Minister Keshab Mahanta congratulated the medical fraternity and others for making the vaccination drive a success.
In another event, the Chief Minister on Friday virtually dedicated 14 PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) oxygen generators, set up in 14 medical colleges and hospitals across the state.
Sarma said: "I am happy to dedicate 14 PSA oxygen generators to the service of the people on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday celebrated as the 'Sewa and Samarpan Divas'. These oxygen generation plants with their generating capacity will greatly help the health services delivery system of the state to provide critical care facilities to the patients."
