GUWAHATI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, "In another milestone towards fulfilling PM Narendra Modi's resolve of a peaceful and dispute free Northeast, Assam and Meghalaya Chief Ministers signed a historic agreement for the settlement of boundary disputes."

The Union Minister said this after Assam and Meghalaya reached an agreement to resolve their inter-state boundary disputes.

"The inter-state boundary settlement will user in a new era of peace, harmony and progress in Assam and Meghalaya. I want to assure the people of the Northeast that the Modi-led Central Government will leave no stone unturned in fulfilling their aspirations. I hope Assam will solve its boundary disputes with other states in the region also amicably. I did request the Chief Ministers of the Northeastern states in Shillong on July 24 last year to solve their boundary disputes amicably.

"Since 2014, the Prime Minister has been laying stress on peace, development, prosperity and cultural uplift in the Northeast. We have signed agreements with the NLFT of Tripura, Bru-Reangs, the insurgents of the Karbi hills, and others. For peace in Bodoland, we have signed the BTR agreement. Now the BTR is a peaceful area.

"Development is not possible till we resolve disputes and make militants surrender. I'm happy that around 6,900 militants have surrendered since 2019. They deposited around 4,800 arms during this period. Peace and development are coming back to the Northeast. The region will emerge as the driving force of the nation."
