GUWAHATI: The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has asked the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Nagaon to submit a detailed report on the eviction drive against encroachers at Batadrova under the Dhing Revenue Circle. The AHRC has directed that the DC's report should be submitted on or before January 18 next.

The AHRC has issued this directive in a suo motu case which has been registered on the basis of newspaper reports regarding the drive to evict around 300 families, which have occupied government land in the Shantijan Bazaar area of Batadrova and erected houses there.

It may be mentioned that the Opposition parties, notably Congress and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), have created noisy scenes in the Assam Legislative Assembly over the last two days regarding the eviction drive in Baradrova.
