GUWAHATI: The president of AIUDF(All India United Democratic Front), Badruddin Ajmal met Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at Janata Bhawan here on Wednesday; and urged him to conduct an inquiry into the alleged irregularities of 'foreign donations' coming to Ajmal Foundation.

Of late, it has been in the news that Ajmal Foundation has all along been receiving foreign funds from sources of 'doubtful credentials'.

Leading a joint delegation of the AIUDF and the Asom State JamiatUlama, Ajmal met the Chief Minister and submitted a memorandum. The memorandum said, "Ajmal Foundation, a public charitable trust came into existence during 2005… The Foundation is also receiving foreign donation registering itself with the FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs…

"Very recently, a so-called NGO, in the name and style of Legal Rights Observatory (LRO), has brought some baseless and fabricated allegations against Ajmal Foundation. Subsequently, some printing and electronic media are also spreading false and fabricated news very unfortunately. Such propaganda has created misunderstanding and wrong conception among the common people on Ajmal Foundation to demoralize its creative charitable activities. Simultaneously, some politicians are taking the opportunities to use the false allegation as a tool to malign the public image of the Trust and Trustees for their political gain.

"If Ajmal Foundation is exercising any irregularities, we also invite to install an inquiry to find out the real fact; but when the Trust is running on strict bindings of the FCRA under the surveillance of the Ministry of Home Affairs, such baseless and fabricated allegations should not be allowed to spread polluting the good spirit of the public welfare activities by the Foundation."

Ajmal sought the intervention of the Chief Minister to stop the 'false propaganda'.
