Alia Bhatt, Kriti Sanon share Best Actress; Allu Arjun feted with Best Actor

NEW DELHI: Bollywood actresses Alia Bhatt and Kriti Sanon have won the Best Actress Award at the 69th National Film Awards for their performances in ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and ‘Mimi’ respectively. Tollywood star Allu Arjun bagged the Best Actor honour for 'Pushpa: The Rise'.

With 280 films across 28 languages were in competition for various awards, the event was held by the jury at the National Media Centre here.

Released in 2022, 'GangubaiKathiawadi' is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film also stars Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Jim Sarbh and Ajay Devgn. The film is about GangubaiKothewali, whose life was documented in the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai written by S. Hussain Zaidi. The film depicts the rise of a simple girl from Kathiawad who had no choice but to embrace the ways of destiny and swing it in her favour.

Allu Arjun's 'Pushpa: The Rise – Part 01' is a Telugu-language action drama film directed by Sukumar. It stars Allu Arjun alongside Fahadh Faasil and Rashmika Mandanna. The first installment in the Pushpa film series, the film depicts the rise of a coolie Pushpa Raj in the smuggling syndicate of red sandalwood, a rare wood that grows only in the Seshachalam Hills of Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh state.

The comedy-drama ‘Mimi’ is directed by Laxman Utekar. The film is a remake of the 2011 Marathi film Mala AaiVhhaychy!, it stars Kriti, who opts to be a surrogate mother for a foreign couple. Pankaj Tripathi, Sai Tamhankar, Manoj Pahwa and Supriya Pathak.

Director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s runaway success ‘The Kashmir Files’ has bagged the Nargis Dutt Award for the Best Feature Film on National Integration at the 69th National Film Awards here on Thursday.

The event took place at the National Media Centre hosted by the jury. It had 280 films across 28 languages in competition for various awards.

‘The Kashmir Files’ presents a storyline centred around the 1990 exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from Kashmir.

The Kashmir Files stars Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, and Pallavi Joshi. The plot follows a Kashmiri Hindu college student, raised by his exiled grandfather and shielded from the knowledge of the circumstances of the death of his parents. After his grandfather's death, the student, who had come to believe at college that the exodus was benign, becomes driven to uncover the facts of his family's deaths.

The plot alternates between the student's quest in the present time, 2020, and his family's travails of thirty years before.

Filmmaker Shoojit Sircar's film 'Sardar Udham' starring Vicky Kaushal has been honoured with Best Hindi Film at the 69th National Film Awards.

The film also was named in the Best Production design, Best Cinematography, the Best Costume Design and Best Audiography category.

‘Sardar Udham’ is a biographical historical drama film directed by Shoojit Sircar, and produced by Rising Sun Films in collaboration with Kino Works.

Based on the life of Udham Singh, a freedom fighter from Punjab who assassinated Michael O'Dwyer in London to avenge the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar.

The film also stars Shaun Scott, Stephen Hogan, Amol Parashar, Banita Sandhu.

The film was also noted for its realistic portrayal of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, being depicted in an extended and graphic sequence.

R. Madhavan’s directorial debut 'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect' on Thursday was named as the Best Feature Film at the 69th National Film Awards. (IANS)
