GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and 30 ethnic organizations on Thursday warned political, communal and other vested interest forces to refrain from hatching conspiracies to safeguard illegal Hindu and Muslim Bangladeshis on the pretext of violation of human rights and to fulfill the hidden agenda of vote bank politics.
The warning has come in less than 48-hours ahead of publication of the final NRC on Saturday.
Expressing hope that August 31 will be a historic day for Assam after publication of the final NRC without containing a single name of Bangladeshi, the AASU and ethnic organizations have expressed serious concern over conspiracies being hatched by communal and political forces to discredit the mammoth NRC update exercise under the strict supervision of the Supreme Court for their vested interest.
“We have full faith in the Supreme Court and the people of Assam will see publication of a Bangladeshi-free NRC,” AASU president Dipanko Kumar Nath said.
A statement signed by Nath said that ahead of August 31, a section of political and communal forces are hell bent on protecting their vote banks by safeguarding interests of illegal Hindu and Muslim Bangladeshis. Certain forces at the international level are trying to safeguard illegal Bangladeshis by raising the issue of human rights violation.
“We will not accept and tolerate any issue including human rights violation to protect illegal Bangladeshis,” Nath said, adding some forces apparently backed by the ruling regime are trying to create confusion about the final NRC.
Appealing to all sections of people to maintain peace and harmony in the post-final NRC publication phase, the AASU and 30 ethnic organizations have said that in case names of indigenous people are not enrolled they will be given full legal and other logistical supports to get their names included.
