GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has expressed deep concern over the violence in Manipur. The AASU also said that the safety of the people of Assam living in Manipur should be a priority for the government of Manipur.
AASU in-charge president Utpal Sarma and general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah wrote a letter to Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh in which they said that students from Assam who were studying in Manipur were feeling insecure due to the situation in the state. On the other hand, their parents here are spending sleepless nights and anxious moments, worrying about the safety and security of their children. They added that there were many people of Assam who were working in Manipur. “The Manipur government should arrange to bring Assam citizens safely home from Manipur,” they said. They added that the AASU was in talks with the All Manipur Students’ Union to keep a tab on the situation in Manipur.
